Tunisia's central bank holds rate at 7%, citing rising energy costs and slower growth

The Banque Centrale de Tunisie kept its policy rate unchanged at 7 percent at its October 7 meeting, pointing to a sharp rise in international energy prices and growth that slowed to 2.3 percent in the second quarter from 2.6 percent the previous one. Inflation rose to 5.6 percent in September from 5.4 in August, while the current account deficit widened to 4,694 million dinars over the first eight months of 2026, from 2,724 million a year earlier. Foreign reserves stood at 23.7 billion dinars, covering 92 days of imports, down from 104 days a year ago.
