Tunisia wants to rebuild phosphate output and reclaim global role, minister says in Cairo

Equipment and Housing Minister Salah Zouari, who also oversees mines, told the Egypt Mining Forum in Cairo that Tunisia wants to rebuild its phosphate industry and reclaim its former standing among the world's leading producers, through private investment, modern mining technology and deeper regional cooperation. Tunisian phosphate output fell from 8.1 million tonnes in 2010 to under 4 million tonnes in recent years, and a separate 110 million euro EBRD-backed plan is already under way to modernise the Gafsa mining company.
