Fuel subsidy could reach 11.2 billion dinars this year, economist warns

Economist Moez Soussi told Diwan FM that Tunisia's fuel subsidy bill could reach around 11.2 billion dinars in 2026, more than double the roughly 5 billion budgeted on an assumed price of $63.3 a barrel. He said the barrel has averaged around $95 this year and topped $104 at points amid Middle East tensions, an unbudgeted gap he put at 6.288 billion dinars. Consumer fuel prices have not moved since 2021, and Soussi raised the possibility of a supplementary finance law to cover the shortfall.
