Venezuela frees 39 political prisoners
Venezuela's interim government released 39 political prisoners between 25 and 26 September, including eight women held on "narco-terrorism" charges and six people accused over a 2020 coup attempt against former president Nicolás Maduro, whom a US military raid removed to the United States in January. Rights group Foro Penal says 344 political prisoners remained as of 18 September, down from 391 a month earlier.
