Terrorism case against journalist Zied El Heni postponed, press freedom groups protest

Tunis's terrorism-specialised criminal chamber postponed to a later date the case against journalist Zied El Heni, over a recording attributed to a former Ennahdha official whose authenticity he verified before a 2023 broadcast. The Committee to Protect Journalists says he faces four terrorism-related charges carrying a possible life sentence for that verification work, and his union, the SNJT, calls the case a criminalisation of routine journalism. El Heni is already serving a one-year sentence under article 86 of the telecommunications code in a separate case.
