DRC's Ebola outbreak passes 5,500 cases as Pope calls for global action

The Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 5,515 confirmed cases and 2,642 deaths, a case fatality rate of nearly 48 percent, making it the country's deadliest outbreak on record. Pope Leo urged the international community to act, and the WHO, which has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, has so far sent 16,250 of a pledged 70,000 vaccine doses.
