Trade deficit widens to 14.96 billion dinars, energy the largest share
The National Institute of Statistics published its foreign trade note for the first seven months of the year on Wednesday. The deficit stands at 14,957.6 million dinars against 11,904.2 million over the same period in 2025. Exports rose 9.9 percent to 40,638.4 million dinars and imports rose 13.7 percent to 55,596 million, so the coverage rate fell to 73.1 percent from 75.6. Energy alone accounts for 7,946.1 million of the gap against 6,037.2 million a year earlier; excluding it the deficit is 7,011.5 million. Olive oil sales reached 3,594.6 million dinars against 2,506.1 million, while exports of phosphates and derivatives fell 11.9 percent and textiles, clothing and leather 3.6 percent.
