Gunman kills six in Kraków's main square, Poland declares days of mourning

A 25-year-old Polish man with no criminal record opened fire with a military-style rifle while driving through Kraków's historic Main Square on Saturday, killing six people and wounding sixteen, two of them police officers. Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz called it an act of terror; officials said the attacker, who was not a soldier despite early reports, held far-right views. President Karol Nawrocki declared national mourning for Sunday and Monday, 8 and 9 November.
