Experts warn Tunisia's summer power cuts could return in 2027 despite new plans

The government's plan adds about 550 megawatts of capacity before next summer, mostly from turbine cooling, gas production and solar energy, but clean-energy advocate Ahmed Dous says the shortfall is 1,500 to 3,300 megawatts. He said only 34 of 287 authorized megawatts of renewables have actually been built, and that policy still ignores households, which use 70 percent of summer demand.
