Bulgaria elects Iotova as its first directly elected woman president
Incumbent President Iliana Iotova won Sunday's runoff with 57.5 percent against challenger Andrey Gyurov's 39.4 percent. She campaigned as a "president of peace" favouring negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, in a vote shaped by Black Sea drone attacks on Bulgarian shipping. She takes office on January 22.
