Novaya Gazeta, whose editor won a Nobel, says it will shut down under Kremlin pressure

Novaya Gazeta, one of Russia's last major independent newspapers, said it will close on 9 November after Russian authorities revoked its media licence, evicted it from its Moscow office and cut off its bank accounts and donation platform. Its editorial team wrote: “We have been stripped of all our resources. Entirely.” Editor Dmitry Muratov shared the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for the paper's defence of press freedom; the paper has been one of the few in Russia to openly criticise the war in Ukraine.
