Tunisia's 2027 draft budget sets subsidies at 11.8 billion dinars, most of it energy

Tunisia's draft 2027 budget law earmarks 11.846 billion dinars in subsidy spending, according to the same TAP-obtained document this paper reported on 15 October, now detailed further by two outlets. Energy subsidies take the largest share at 7.09 billion dinars, or 59.8 percent of the total: 3.676 billion dinars for the state power and gas utility STEG and 3.414 billion for the refiner STIR, figures that include about 500 million dinars toward STEG's accumulated 2017-2023 debts and 320 million toward STIR's 2022 and 2024 debts. Subsidies for basic foodstuffs come to 4.036 billion dinars, 34.1 percent of the total and down from 41.7 percent planned for 2026, while transport subsidies rise slightly to 720 million dinars. The energy figures assume an average Brent crude price of 80 dollars a barrel in 2027, against 63.3 dollars assumed for 2026.
