Ethiopia installs interim government in Tigray, promises elections within six months

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government named five officials, including Mekelle's mayor, to run Tigray for six months after federal forces retook the region from a Tigray People's Liberation Front uprising that collapsed in early October. The government promised elections once the interim administration's term ends; the TPLF had not responded to the announcement, and Ethiopia continues to accuse Eritrea of backing the group, which Eritrea denies.
