Tunisia targets 35 percent renewable electricity by 2030 after summer's power cuts

Head of Government Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri chaired a restricted ministerial council on 9 October that set a target of 35 percent of electricity production from renewables by 2030. The plan includes a third 300-megawatt gas turbine at Borj El Amri, a 200-megawatt solar plant with battery storage in Tataouine, and a 300-megawatt cut in peak demand, following the power cuts that hit Tunisia in July. That comes in addition to the 300-megawatt solar plant with battery storage at Bazma in Kébili reported earlier this month.
