Tunisia drops prison for first 'fake news' offense under Decree-Law 54

A decree published in Wednesday's Official Gazette rewrites article 24 of Decree-Law 54, Tunisia's contested disinformation and cybercrime law, replacing a first-offense prison term of up to five years with a fine of 10,000 to 20,000 dinars. A repeat offense still carries six months in prison and a 50,000-dinar fine, doubled when the target is a public official. The Council of Ministers, chaired by President Kais Saied, approved the change on Tuesday.
