Ethiopia's army chief accuses Egypt and Sudan of backing rebel alliance seeking to oust Abiy

Field Marshal Birhanu Jula said on 27 September that Egypt and Sudan are backing a newly announced coalition of seven armed groups, including Tigrayan and Oromo forces, trying to remove Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, though he offered no evidence. Fighting has resumed in northern Ethiopia as Tigrayan forces clash with federal troops, amid a continuing row with Egypt over the Nile dam and accusations from Sudan that Ethiopia was involved in drone strikes on Khartoum airport.
