Trump and Xi extend trade truce to January, leave Taiwan unresolved

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US and China agreed to extend their trade truce, due to expire in November, to 10 January. Tariffs, Chinese purchases of US goods, rare-earth supplies and technology restrictions remain unresolved. Xi urged Washington to handle Taiwan cautiously and reiterated Beijing's opposition to independence for the island; no change in the US position was announced.
