Italy's government moves to cap foreign students at 30 percent per class

Giorgia Meloni's government has unveiled plans to cap the share of pupils who are not Italian citizens at 30 percent per classroom, against a current national average of 11.6 percent, alongside a ban on full-face coverings in schools and a requirement that parents of children with serious integration difficulties take Italian lessons. 'If these children are many, or even the majority, that's not integration anymore, that's abandonment,' Meloni said at a gathering of her party's youth wing. Experts note that a classroom cap of this kind would be unprecedented in Europe.
