Trump hosts Xi for Washington state visit, White House summit on Thursday

Donald Trump will greet Chinese President Xi Jinping at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday ahead of a state visit to Washington; the main White House meeting and a state dinner follow on Thursday. US and Chinese officials opened trade talks in New York to lay the groundwork for the summit, expected to cover tariffs, rare earths, artificial intelligence and a possible extension of the trade truce; Taiwan and the Iran war are also likely to come up.
