Iranian lawmakers file bill to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

A group of Iranian lawmakers filed an emergency bill on Sunday, as President Masoud Pezeshkian flew to the UN General Assembly, demanding immediate withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the start of nuclear weapons tests; the bill awaits Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf's approval for debate. Senior officials say Iran is "not leaving" the treaty for now, however. On Tuesday the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said the US and Israel must accept withdrawing from the region, while the UK's maritime trade agency reported a second vessel struck by debris from an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz.
