US disables three Iranian oil tankers after IRGC fires missiles at US Navy warships
US Central Command said on 5 September its forces had "permanently disabled" two Iranian crude oil tankers and completely destroyed a third, in response to Iran's Revolutionary Guard firing ballistic missiles at two US Navy warships. Neither US vessel was hit and no personnel were hurt, CENTCOM said, describing the tankers as part of a "multibillion-dollar network" funding the Revolutionary Guard and its regional proxies. Iran claims it targeted a US aircraft carrier and destroyer it accuses of harassing Iranian ships, a claim that has not been independently confirmed.
