Rubio tours Colombia, Ecuador and Peru amid Latin America's rightward shift

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio began a three-country tour on September 8, meeting Colombia's new president Abelardo de la Espriella before travelling on to Ecuador and then Peru, where he is due to meet newly elected leader Keiko Fujimori. The State Department said the trip covers earthquake recovery aid for Colombia, counter-narcotics cooperation and deeper trade ties. It follows a rightward shift across Latin America that has also brought Trump-aligned leaders to power in Honduras and Bolivia this year.
