Spain moves to tighten asylum law after Ceuta migrant surge

Madrid has presented a draft bill to align Spanish asylum law with the EU's new Migration and Asylum Pact, making it easier to reject claims and speed up expulsions, after around 80,000 people crossed illegally from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on 31 July. Most have since returned to Morocco, but roughly 5,000 remain in the city, including an estimated 2,000 unaccompanied minors, and the government is under fire from the opposition and Ceuta's own regional government over its response.
