Hungary's parliament elects the judge Orbán removed as president

András Baka, former head of Hungary's supreme court and for 17 years a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, was elected on Tuesday by 140 votes to six. He was removed from the supreme court in 2011 after publicly criticising Orbán's judicial reforms. The post fell vacant after Peter Magyar's Tisza party, which holds a two-thirds majority, pushed through the removal of his predecessor. Baka takes office on 19 August.
