Government keeps the A1 and A2 motorways with the state operator
A restricted ministerial council met at La Kasbah on Wednesday under the head of government, Sarra Zaâfrani Zenzri, and decided that Tunisie Autoroutes will go on operating both motorways. A new concession contract will be signed for the A1 between Hammam-Lif and M'saken, whose current contract runs to the end of 2028, and a second for the A2 between Tunis and Jelma, which will open under toll once its works are finished, expected in 2027. The government cited the company's technical capacity and equipment, and said the choice preserves state control over the network. Zaâfrani Zenzri said 743 kilometres of motorway are in service, 567 of them tolled, and pressed the contractors on the A2, 186 kilometres built in eight sections for close to 1,700 million dinars, to keep to their deadlines.
