400 large firms account for 70 percent of industrial energy use

The head of industrial energy efficiency at the national energy agency ANME says consumption is therefore heavily concentrated, so measures at a small number of plants go a long way. He pointed to a waste heat recovery project at a cement works that cost about 40 million dinars, cut the plant's electricity use by 30 percent and paid for itself in under two years. Studies suggest the technique could yield up to 80 megawatts in the cement sector alone.
